View Full Version : Killed a snake in the Z06...

I suppose this could be considered a "kill story" of sorts.
Arriving home from work yesterday, I came across this slithering guest crossing my driveway. At the time, he was in the middle of the driveway, and when he saw the Corvette he paused for a moment and acted a little more aggressive. He wiggled up the driveway for a few feet, then decided to crawl left towards the grass. Right where my meaty 345 wide Goodyears could smash him! As soon as I had the opportunity, I floored it and rolled across him with one front and one rear tire.
Sucker was tough, he must have wiggled for another 5 min before croaking. Finished him off with a shovel and threw him in the woods next door.
Anyone want to play "name that species"? I'm thinking water moccasin...

Not a water moccasin, the heads' too small....most poisonous north american snakes are types of vipers that have heads that are disproportionately large......the victims head is just a little wider than it's body. If it was in Tennessee I'd say it was a milk snake.

...and that is one of the bad things about living out in the middle of no where. I bet Lisa would have freaked if she was the one to find it. Although, it kinda looks like a rat snake (which wouldn't harm you). If you could get close enough to see the head, I've always been told the poisonous snakes will have a dent between the eyes and the "nose". They also have a flatter head.

Um ya, not something I'd see in the Chicago area... and if I did I think I may be a little freaked out, lol.

His head was pretty flat, since I ran right over it with a run-flat Goodyear. lol

Yea, that is what I was thinking - rat snake. About the right size, gets aggressive too.

Rat snake it is folks. Non Poisonous species and are actually good to keep around. However, I would have ran his ass over too. I hate snakes. They give me the creeps.

it's non pisonous by the shape of the head. Im thinkin it a species of rat snake. It constricts its kill like a python.

Depends how you view them... snakes cut down on rodent populations, kill bugs, and some species of snakes here will actually eat the venomous snakes. Here north of dfw we have quite a few, I normally see about a dozen or so every summer. :)

You don't really want them in your house but having some of them outside isn't so bad. Like others said, they can take care of more pesky rodents. I actually like snakes (well, the ones that can't kill me). They can make pretty cool pets but some of them are really aggressive even if they aren't poisonous. Those aren't much fun either. Kinda like an iguana. They can get very mean and territorial.

Whatever it was it deserved to die!
Just be glad it wasn't 2pm on a saturday and you wake up after a long night and are headed for the pisser (without your glasses 20/600 vision = blind as fuck) and you open the door to stagger down the hall way, but you see something strange and stop for a better look.. It appears to be something long and curled up about 3-4 ft from my toes.. Yeah it wasn't the damn cord from the vacuum cleaner.. It was a damn 4ft long COPPERHEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After turning around and heading back into the bedroom and standing on the bed for a few minutes to be sure I wasn't fuckin dreaming I then broke out the pellet gun and popped a few caps in his ass. Or skull I should say!! But that was after I put 3 holes in the cabinet door cause its hard to shoot a snake in the head halfway across the room damnit!!!!!

why does everyone hate snakes so much? they're good to have around because they keep other peskier critters away.....and they're just so damn cool. i love snakes (as long as they're not venomous enough to kill me before i can call 911, lol).
snakes aren't "evil", or even "mean"....they have no emotions. they just react to whatever they perceive as a threat, it's not like they're all out there thinking "i'm gonna go fuck me up a human today".....
i would just relocate him with a rake/shovel/etc. to the wilderness where he belongs so he can continue eating the pesky rodents & such to keep them out of my house.

Come on guys... he didn't know what type of snake it was. For all he knew, it could have been poisonous. He has a wife and kid to worry about. I'm sure he didn't want to take the chance without knowing for certain one way or the other. Rat snakes like to hide in warm, dark places and have a habit of finding their way into your home if it is not sealed well. And although they can't kill you, they are very aggressive towards anyone and anything. I'm not sure if they could break skin on an adult but they would probably cause discomfort to a small child... and if nothing else scare the crap out of them. I'm sure any of you would do the same if you thought it could be a potential threat to your loved ones.

yeah because I hear about people being bitten by snakes and dieing left and right...listen he can kill whatever he wants, just saying it wasn't needed, and snakes are vitally important, along with spiders...
it wasn't in the house either....I guarantee there are snakes all around yours, unless you live in a concrete jungle.

I don't believe you can tell if its poisonous just by looking at the head. Yes all pit vipers are poisonous, but not all poisonous snakes are pit vipers, which have the tell tale triangular shaped head, and the "pits." In North America, iirc, the Coral Snake is the most deadliest, and its not a pit viper. It has very small, fixed fangs, unlike the retractable, larger fangs of pit vipers.

uh....and coral snakes are BRIGHTLY colored and very easy to tell if they are poisonous.not to mention they don't really have fangs and they have to "chew" on you to inject you with venom.

I understand that they are brightly colored, and relatively easy to tell if they are poisonous, my point is that you can't just rule it out if it doesn't have a triangular head. Venomous snakes come in many shapes and sizes.

Shit, I wouldn't have taken any chances at all being that it was in texas. It's obviously not a venomous snake but next time it may be a western diamond back or something. Or worse, a garter snake. Now that shit would be ultra scary. But really, I would have did a burn out on that thing.

Around here.. animal control would have told him to brush it away with a stick  They don't care unless something is dying. Even then, it would probably take them a few days to get to it.
