I figured being a forum with tons of LS fans as well as gear heads, this would be a good spot to show you one of the projects we are currently working on…Colorado Speed. After two years of designing, planning and building…the MBRP Colorado Speed Project is getting close to completion.

We are excited to see this project nearing completion and are very much looking forward to attending many shows and events over the upcoming year.

With a long history of working with GM, we were presented the opportunity to build Colorado SPEED. It started out as GM Canada Drift truck project that has now grown into much more. We have built this project as a “jack of all trades” - it has been built to drift but it will also hold its own on a road course, we imagine it will hook and run a good ¼ mile time. As well, running at the Texas mile should net us some good top speed runs. All this yet civilized enough to run events like the Hot Rod Power Tour and Woodward Dream Cruise. It’s almost a daily driver…

MBRPinc will also have many other shows, events and various venues where we will also be showing the project all across Canada and the United States. Watch for us at various drag strips, drift events and the Silver State Classic events as well.

This is the way things started...

A stock 2007 Z71 regular cab short box Colorado was delivered to get the ball rolling as well as a LS7 crate motor and a T-56 six speed transmission. With this combo being stout to begin with, we knew we were going in the right direction…but once again ATI Pro Charger jump on board with one of their F1A’s to give this LS7 some more horsepower…

As the truck was being torn apart we sent the motor to the guys at EPP to tear it apart and put some killer internals in to handle the extra boost…street driven at 14lbs, and race at 22lbs.

Here is the before picture, and then what it's going to look like when completed...we have tons of pics through out the build and I'll post them daily.

What was the reasoning behind starting with a 4wd?

That is what was available at the time...I would think that GM looked at their inventory and that's what they had. It came from another dealers lot and was delivered to our local dealer.

I saw that on EPP's website a few months ago. Looks like a really sweet project...very different from anything else that will be on the road.

How easy does an LS motor fit in the engine bay of a Colorado/canyon?

The 4wd models were available with a 5.3 from the factory. I saw a 2wd version at a GM pre-production facility in 2003, but that never materialized.

Thanks, this is the idea of the project..to be different.

It fits like a glove...add a Pro charger, intercooler, etc, etc and the room quickly runs out...that's why the rad is built in the box.

I know it's a small detail, but I like that you've got the cage running through the top of the cab rather than through the window.

With that kind of power and 4wd that thing is just screaming to go on a hill climb somewhere. Very cool project.

I'm going to guess that it's no longer 4wd.
