The 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX adopts the styling lines of the high-performance STI.

The 2011 Subaru Impreza (http://www.autoweek.com/article/20100323/NEWYORK/303239998#) WRX will look more like the WRX STI model by adopting the STI's wide-body look, including a wide track front and rear, and wider tires.
The front and rear tracks of the 2011 WRX are 1.5 inches wider, compared with the 2010 model. Wheel diameter remains at 17 inches, but the wheels get an inch wider at 8 inches. The wheels are fitted with 235/45R-17 tires.
The WRX powertrain for 2011 remains the turbocharged 2.5-liter flat-four engine, rated at 265 hp and 244 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive (http://www.autoweek.com/article/20100323/NEWYORK/303239998#).
Subaru says the wide-body 2011 WRX, in four- and five-door body styles, gains 33 pounds over the comparable 2010 model. The car (http://www.autoweek.com/article/20100323/NEWYORK/303239998#) goes on sale this summer.

I actually like these cars. I doubt I'd ever want to own one, but I do like the looks of them.
I like them but I don't. They look decent but I wouldn't drive it. I don't think I've ever been so divided on a vehicle.

Why don't they make the STI available as a sedan rather than just that goofy hatch?

You summed it up perfectly for me. I think the cars look nice, but I'd prefer not look like some ricer fanboi rolling around in one. WRX guys around here give those cars a bad rep for other auto enthusiasts. They love to preach about how Subaru is so damn great. I'm in my 30s, and when I see a guy my age range or older in a WRX or STi, I wonder if they borrowed their teenager's car for the day. Very few cars make me think this. EVO, WRX, and Nismo Z's

I agree. Those cars looked so bad ass as a sedan than they do as a hatchback!!:boiling:

Same applies in the Midwest. If I wanted a 4wd, 4 door, I would be looking at Audi.

But you will be in Japan. You will be surrounded with mostly suckdom in vehicles, this one will actually be a step up ;)

New York auto show: Subaru revises STI for 2011 and adds a four-door model

2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI Sedan (http://www.autoweek.com/article/20100401/newyork/100409993/car-pictures&template=photo)
In the past couple of years, if you were looking for a turbocharged, AWD rally-bred sedan (http://www.autoweek.com/article/20100401/NEWYORK/100409993#) with an oversized rear wing, you were really limited to the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution.
But now Subaru is reviving a large rear spoiler of its own on the new 2011 Impreza WRX STI four-door (http://www.autoweek.com/article/20100401/NEWYORK/100409993#), which debuted at the New York auto show.
The sedan joins the five-door wagon in Subaru’s flagship performance (http://www.autoweek.com/article/20100401/NEWYORK/100409993#) lineup and marks the first time the STI has been offered in two body styles. The STI sedan adopts the wide-body design found on the wagon, with heavily flared front fenders and rear quarter panels. In addition, the bumpers feature a more aggressive look with blacked-out fog lights, a new grille with black inset and the aforementioned oversized rear wing.
Helping to raise the handling prowess in both wagon and sedan versions, Subaru reworked the suspension tuning, which was previewed on the 2010 Impreza WRX STI Special Edition. Ride height is lowered, spring rates increase, antiroll bars are thicker, and front pillow-ball bushings and rear subframe bushings are stiffened. The standard 18-inch wheels are also new and weigh 17.6 pounds less than the previous wheels. All of this results in reduced body roll, more neutral handling response and better lateral grip capability.
Both the 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI sedan and wagon land in showrooms in late summer.

Odd...we got a STI Wagon traded in today and I got to do the used car cert on it, driving it around really made me contemplate trading the stang in for one, b/c as stated in other threads I'm looking for a high hp hatch. I think the previous gen WRXs and STIs have the bad fanboi rep, I think the hatch tones it down a tad bit, but I guess it depends on the color you get. I too am extremely divided on the cars...they are some of the safest vehicles on the road, anyone ever seen the inside of their b-pillars?

Kinda cool, like they have their own built-in roll bar.

I spent 6 months in a Subaru dealership as a shipping & receiving manager. Their body panels are so thin and seemingly weak. Oddly enough, they crumple perfectly on impact (from what I saw in the body shop). They are engineered with safety in mind, that's for sure.
