Chevrolet will preview its next-generation subcompact entry when it shows the Aveo RS show car at the Detroit auto show next week.

With the goal of catching the attention of young enthusiasts, the Aveo RS features European-inspired hot hatch looks and a longer and wider stance compared with the current Aveo. Joining Chevy's signature dual-element grille up front are large brake ducts with integrated fog lights, aluminum trim and flared fenders.

Designers drew inspiration from motorcycles for the exposed round headlamps and taillamps. The show car rides on 19-inch wheels that go over the Boracay blue painted brake calipers. Out back, an integrated spoiler and center-mounted exhaust complete the package.

For the interior, the Boracay blue theme is brought in with accent stitching on the instrument panel, steering wheel, door inserts, seats, shifter boot and floor mats. A round analog tachometer with milled-metal trim and round aluminum-trimmed side vents are further nods to motorcycle inspiration.
Chevrolet says that some of the show car's features might be available on the production car as personalization options when it arrives in 2011.
Power comes from a 1.4-liter, 138-hp turbocharged four-cylinder--which will also be available on the Chevy Cruze--mated to a six-speed manual transmission for driving enthusiasts.

To dress up the engine bay, a special graphite-silver engine cover with brushed-aluminum insert is added, along with ice-blue-rimmed coolant and power-steering fluid-filler caps.

I would choose that over a Scion - which is the audience they are targeting.

Looks pretty cool for what it is. A little econobox that might actually appeal to young buyers. God knows GM could use one of those. I wouldn't buy it for myself but for a kid in high school or college it would offer some sportiness and still be affordable to insure and get good gas mileage.

While not a fan of the car at all for what it is I have to admit it looks pretty good.

I'd commute that, assuming the interior was at least comparable to a 4th Gen F-body in build quality, which I don't think is asking too much.

As stated, it is a major step up from the older Aveo styling.

I like it!!!

Way to go GM, just hope they can keep it up and keep going with the European influences.
