Great shots.

What did the Gumpert run?

The red Magnum was at the Miami Mile two weekends ago, too.

That looks like an amazing event.

Great pics too.

Gumpert I heard did 158. Kinda crappy for the car I think.

Magnum was probably the most shocking...189mph first pass is what I saw!!!

I heard some interesting things about that Miami Mile thing...is it true they were using a radar gun to get speeds?

Reason she asks is there's rumore that their margin of error was + or - ~20mph...Texas mile...+ or - 1 billionth of a mph...

Yeah, it was a handheld radar. But it was dead accurate.

Well, Texas is obviously much better than anywhere else. Even the length of their mile is better! I heard a rumor once about Texas...Something about steers and queers or whatever. :D

I heard they clocked a Mustang in the 180s when the owner swears it couldnt possibly have been over 150. Either way, I don't think it could be more accurate than the laser setup with lidar backup system they employ here. Not bragging on the "Texas" thing, just saying I don't understand why they don't do it like every drag strip in the US, other than the setup is expensive - but well worth it, absolutely no human error.

This was the first Miami Mile event, ever. :thumb:

Bet the pre-party and after party in Miami kicked the shit out of Goliad, TX. lol

I don't think I've ever seen a radar gun that is off by ~10% unless they were using it from the side.

Any angle the radar is off will introduce considerable error. The car being in a different spot on the runway will make a big difference. As Kat said why not do it like they do at drag strip so there is no doubt.

Glad there is more than one event but Texas has the experience to do it better I guess :)

No doubt Miami had the better party. Goliad isn't exactly a "bumping town" (Even though it's in an even smaller town of Berclaire pretty much).

Was a good time for car fun however. I will be going every chance I get!

Well, do you really think they were standing in front of a car going 200+ mph?

No but if they're at less than 5 degrees than they're within 99.6% accuracy, so if they're 20 ft off the track then they just need to pick up the car at 230 ft or more away. You can also correct for the error very easily as well.

Either way, I wouldn't want to use radar, I wouldn't think it'd be too expensive or difficult to set something up similar to a drag strip. Is this what they're using at the Texas mile?

Seems like the two of you could get by with one forum name. You reference her in every single post when you come in for backup! :drinkingbuddies:

May be able to get by with one name but why when we can have to. Why share the post count! No need to come in for backup just like giving my 2 cents :) She is probably as technically minded if not more so than most on this board and others :)

You could easily correct for the error with the radar gun but with number of runs it'd be difficult to setup. TX mile does like the drag strip does and has a trap that it takes the avg speed across. I want to say it was 50ft.

I'm not really sure why we're trying to compare the two events.

Nice pictures.

Yea either way both had nice cars (some cars ran both). Hope to see more "mile" events popping up as it's a blast. My car was STOCK and was still fun to take down the track!

Wish I got my run on video.

Friend took his 98 Z to the Tex mile (black camaro in her pics) and he managed to get near 170mph (168.5) with a L92/LS2 combo in the car. Pretty good for just a low buck street car! Matching the times stock Ford GT's were putting a couple days before and stock/low mod Z06s!

What's he put down on the dyno? Track times?

He hasn't run at the drag strip but one time and it was HOT and he did 12.4 I think. Car made 460/450 hp/tq. Pretty nice little street car! I think he could have hit 170 but temps were rising as the day went and winds shifted to headwinds I heard.

It was my car...1/4 time was a 12.65 @116.67, (DA of about 2500ft) with a 2.2 60ft! It was my first time out w/ the new motor and on street tires, hoping to get that down with a stickier tire and a lot more practice.

The car was running good at the mile, I was really hoping for a 170 on Sat night when the temps got down to 60s and the wind died but there were too many cars breaking. If I still have the car in March I'd like to go back and break 175, with a few more HP of course!

I'm anxious to see how your car does in Miami, I was the only 4th gen running this weekend.

Yea kinda surprising you were the only 4th gen! Guess they're starting to fall off the map all together. $$$/mph I think you had just about everyone covered. If you're upping the power shoot for the next "bracket" at 180mph!
