Anyone have one? And if so, what brand and are you happy with it?
How's the internet connection? (This is pretty much the only reason I want to get one.)
I am looking at a HP - Mini Netbook with Intel® Atom™ Processor N270. (I usually buy all Sony products, but their version has WINDOWS VISTA operating system and people are saying that it is crap on that type of machine. The HP has WINDOWS XP operating system.)
It's got a SSD, solid state drive, which is better than a regular hard drive for what this is used for; traveling, carrying around.
Any info would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!!

In my opinion, they aren't worth it. You should drop a couple hundred more and pick up a full laptop. The netbook is extremely limited in its capabilities.

And Vista isn't bad, once you figure out what to "turn off." It is still a bit heavier than XP (and Windows 7), but it isn't horrible. It is different from XP, and sometimes that difference scares people.

I don't want to carry a full lap top around. These net books are like 3 lbs. or less. And, I only want to use it pretty much for the internet and email while out and about. (Which is the main reason these net books are created in the first place.)
As far as Vista goes, I hear way too many bad things about that operating system. Thanks for your input though.

I'm about to cross over to Apple laptops soon. They are bank but I am convinced they are bit better in many ways. I am on duo core toshiba now, but I use my girl friends apple and I notice a difference. They are so thin and light in weight too.

Anyone think about crossing over to Apple notebooks?

There might be something to those things. A friend of mine has one for work (and he is a die hard pc guy), and he is almost sold on it. He said he tried to kill the thing and it keeps on going. You just can't crash it.

I have an asus eeepc 1000ha. I really like it for web/papers/etc. I have XP pro and office to install but havent gotten around to it. I also have a 160gb hard drive in it. I opted out of SSD because of how little space you get, faster or not. If your looking at different brands I chose Asus over Acer, for example, because it was really easy to get to the HD and Ram. Just one screw. Samsung's looked nice too. I bought all my stuff off Amazon.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Yeah, I work on Mac's @ work, or should I say, when I had a job, (got laid off).
I was working on a G5, not a lap top though. I forget what operating system it was. I think it may have been Panther?
But I do see more & more people going to Apple these days. I think they are a lot more user friendly as well.

Once you turn off all the little annoyances that Vista has, it is manageable. I won't say I prefer it to XP, but it really isn't as crappy as everyone makes it out to be. Windows 7 looks much better though.

I needed a laptop to go overseas this summer, but saw most netbooks as a downgrade from my 4 year old intel celeron I was trying to replace. I knew I wanted a 12.1 inch, but most ultraportables are super expensive ($2000+) and not super convincing, especially graphics wise. I was beginning to think I'd have to make a big compromise - don't upgrade, or get an anemic netbook, or shell out $$$$ for a proper ultraportable. This couldn't have come along at a better time. 4gb ram + discrete graphics (with 512mb dedicated?!) was the deal maker. Plus, I like supporting the underdog AMD, and the novelty of having their newest processor is nice. A 320gb hard drive is really nice too, that was higher than most more expensive notebooks I found! You really have to see for yourself how thin it is, after you read what they somehow packed in. AMD really found a niche here.
4 pounds for that thing. Getting a netbook just seems wrong in my eyes. I know that if I bought something like that, I'd always wish it could do more. Thus the full-on laptop. To each his own though.

i'm with him. the netbook is cool, and yeah you can search the web......but you can use the cd-rom drive, your ipod nano has more memory, and they are NOT covered by warranty or service plan for viruses.

Mine weighs 2.xx lb.
It has 160gb HD. Way bigger than your nano..
It is pretty quick for what it is and is in the $300 price range. They are super affordable well built machines that do exactly what they were designed for. I didn't buy it thinking I'd be playing a million games and using PS.
I have another external 250gb HD I use for my music and an external dvd drive that cost maybe 50 bucks. The only advantage a fullsize laptop has is for video games. Plus on battery I get 6-7 hours of life. For travel between school or wherever else life takes you a netbook just can't be beat.

And if you got a trojan virus its because you don't know how to protect your computer. That is not the fault of any manufacturer.

Dell would be the last brand I would buy. I had a 15" I gave my sister which was a piece.

YES!!! I agree. You need to put on an anti-virus on there for the web surfing. I would use this little machine for JUST THAT!! Web surfing and email "on the go." Much lighter/smaller than a laptop in my opinion.
Well, after checking it out at Best Buy yesterday, I am thinking I am not going to buy one. I may change my mind, but right now, it's a no go.
Thanks for your input/info guys!!

No, I do not. lol
Sorry about your laptop. I have a software firewall, which is pretty damn good, for my home pc. (What might help as well, if you are in the market for a new lap top, get a MAC. They are a little less known for virus attacks.)
I also have Norton's Anti Virus and Ad-Aware. I run the Ad-Aware every once in a while and the Norton's I have SHUT OFF ALL THE TIME, (makes your other programs run really slow) except for one day a week where I have it scheduled to come on and do a FULL SYSTEM SCAN.
Hope that helps and good luck!

A while back bestbuy was offering a really small external CD-R/RW/DVD/DVD-R/Lightscribe drive with the purchase with any netbook. If a cd drive is your main deterrence to buying one then I would just wait for another deal like that.

Have you tried to boot up using SAFE MODE? Usually it's the F8 key. I never have, but anyone having trouble would do that and take it from there.
I would bring it back to where you bought it and say there is something wrong with the hard drive or something. Maybe they will hook you up.
Hope this helps!!

I'm a die-hard Apple guy. Have a desktop at home and a $5000 set-up at work. But for travel I don't wanna drop $1000 plus on a Apple laptop and I want something small and light. So I'm looking at netbooks too. A buddy has an Acer and loves it. Anyone have an Acer? I'm very knowledgeable with Apples, but have never owned a PC.

I don't own an Acer, but I have used several Acer brand products and never had a problem. Think of Acer as the "Pacesetter" of computers. Not the flashiest, but it does the job for little money.
